Note:
When converting a solution from Sitecore 5.3 to Sitecore 6, module upgrades should be performed on a working Sitecore 6 solution as a last step when all other conversion steps are done.

Upgrade Instructions.

Backup any module layouts, sublayouts or templates you have customized. Also backup the Mailing List settings item (/sitecore/system/Modules/MailingList).
Install the module package for Sitecore CMS 6.
Choose Overwrite for all assembly files (*.dll) if prompted.
Choose Overwrite for all the files in /sitecore modules/shell/MailingList folder if prompted.
If the layout of the letters was changed (genericmail.html and genericmail.xslt files), use the genericmail.html and genericmail.xslt files from Sitecore CMS 5.3 or just choose Skip if prompted for the files.
Choose “Merge » Merge” for items if prompted except for /sitecore/system/Modules/MailingList item. When the update installation is finished, copy the field values from your old Mailing List settings item to the new one.
If you changed some data in Mailing List masters, make sure the new Mailing List branch templates contain correct data.
Copy the layouts and sublayouts from Sitecore CMS 5.3 to the upgraded solution.
Reuse the Mailing List database from Sitecore CMS 5.3.X.
Perform a republishing and test the site.
