Choose the set of existing standard field types which you want to use in your custom field. For example, to create Custom Checklist field you should use the Checklist and Text standard fields. The Text field will be used to display the selected items.

All standard fields for Content Editor can be found in Sitecore.Shell.Applications.ContentEditor namespace.
