Resolving Browser Crashes and JavaScript Permission Denied

This article describes how to resolve browser crashes and JavaScript permission denied.

Sitecore has identified issues with KB918899 and KB923996 released by Microsoft during the summer of 2006. These issues do not affect the Sitecore CMS server, only Internet Explorer browsers accessing Sitecore user interfaces. Updating to the latest from Microsoft may be needed on any machine accessing Sitecore.

Microsoft released ‘MS09-019: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer’ on June 17 2009 as KB969897. After applying this IE update your browser may crash if you try to edit an HTML or Security field on an item which is not locked by the current user. This bug has been reported to Microsoft and currently we have no work around.

Removing KB918899 avoids the two issues described in this document.

Microsoft has released KB923996 to address an issue with KB918899 but has not made KB923996 a component of Windows Update.

After installing KB923396 the browser may throw a JavaScript Permission denied error. This section describes how to resolve this issue.
