Assign Sitecore content to a group, a snippet, or a page

There are various ways to add Sitecore content items to your documents. You can add new Sitecore content items directly from the Content panel to your InDesign page. If you work with documents that contain Sitecore data already, you can also assign Sitecore content to a group, a snippet, or a page. This enables you to add new Sitecore content to your existing layouts.

This topic describes how to:

  • Assign content to a group on your InDesign page

  • Assign content to a snippet or page in the Project panel

  • Find assigned items

Assign content to a group on your InDesign page

You can use the Sitecore content items from the Content panel to assign content to grouped items on your InDesign page. You can change the group’s content by assigning a different Sitecore content item to the group.

To assign a content item to a group of items:

  • In the Content panel, select the content item and drag it to the group on your InDesign page. For example, add a different activity to a page of a travel brochure.

All group items on the page are now changed to the new Sitecore content item that you assigned. In the example, the image, title, and body text are changed to describe the Venice Gondola activity.

Assign content to a snippet or page in the Project panel

If you need to change the content for many different items, you can assign a Sitecore content item to a snippet or a page in the project structure. A snippet in IDC is a collection of content items (text frames, images, and so on) that is saved in the project structure of a document in Sitecore. Assigning new content to the snippet or page in the Project panel changes all the content items that are part of the snippet or page.

To assign a Sitecore content item to a snippet or page in the Project panel:

  • In the Content panel, select the Sitecore content item and drag it to the snippet or page in the Project panel. For example, you can change the introduction section on the page of a travel brochure to describe a different city.

All snippet items that are referenced in Sitecore are now changed to the new Sitecore content item that you assigned.

Note

If you need to change the content for many snippets on different pages, you can assign a Sitecore content item to a page in the project structure.

Find assigned items

In the Project panel, you can see the reference to the Sitecore content item in parentheses. If you are not sure which Sitecore content item is assigned to an item on your InDesign page or where it exactly comes from, you can find it by clicking Find the assigned item.

To locate the assigned content item:

  • In the Project panel, select the snippet or item and click Find the assigned item . If the Sitecore content item is available and accessible, it is automatically selected in the Content panel.
